Beer is an amazing beverage; It has a beautiful color, enticing aroma, and pairs well with just about any food under the sun. For most people, when they think of the word “beer,” images of your basic American lager like Budweiser, Coors Light, or Miller Light come to mind. However, beer is so complex and covers such a wide range of options, that it deserves better than a simple generalization. If you’re a beer connoisseur, you probably can’t help but think that your ideal beer is still out there somewhere—you just haven’t tried it yet. That’s what motivates you to spend every weekend trying out a new brewery or going across the country to make it to a beer festival. It becomes more about the journey, the people you meet, and the places you visit that make it all worth it.
If you’re new to beer drinking, you might be a little overwhelmed by the number of options there are for you out there, and you may not even know where to begin. Trying to find a beer to call “your favorite” may be more about trying everything you can get your hands on, rather than understanding what ingredients and brewing processes will work together to make a beer that you’ll truly love. In this blog, we’re going to talk about how you can discover that one beer that clicks with you and that you can confidently call, “your favorite.”
Expand your horizons
Sure, it’s great to have a favorite brewery or a few breweries that you hit up regularly, but if you never take the time to explore and try other breweries, you’re never going to know what’s really out there. Many of the greatest breweries in the country don’t sell their beer in liquor stores or in restaurants. They want it to be experienced in its full glory, on draft, at their own brewery. Ultimately, “good” beer will make its way into liquor stores, but if you want to experience the “great” beers, you’ll only find those in breweries.
Take advantage of technology
There are a number of great apps out there to help you keep track of your favorite beer and network with other beer lovers. Untappd is a personal favorite, allowing you to explore popular breweries, register and rate beers that you’ve tried, and see what beers other people are drinking. It’s free and could help you find that beer of your dreams.
Take a trip
If you really want to find your ideal beer, you’re going to need to take advantage of beer festivals and other beer-related events. But you don’t have to fly across the world to make this happen, and you don’t need to make it all about the beer. Grab a friend and make a trip out of it. Discover which beer festival you want to hit and then find out other activities you can do while you’re there. The Great American Beer Festival, held in Denver, Colorado in mid to late September or early October is a great festival for trying craft brews from all over the country. It features 800 breweries and 3800+ beers—talk about a great opportunity! You’ll meet a lot of beer enthusiasts just like you, and who knows, maybe you’ll learn about a great brewery in your hometown that you’ve never heard of!
Oasis Brewery, founded in 1991, is one of Colorado’s original microbreweries. Our beers have won awards at The Great American Beer Festival and The World Beer Cup. Visit us at the festival or contact us today to learn about our new brewery that will be opening soon in Denver!
